Trace Smitherman
Head Coach / Quarterbacks Coach
Trace Smitherman has carved out an illustrious career as a high school football coach, spanning 14 years across three schools: Stebbins, Xenia, and Tri-County North. His dedication, strategic acumen, and ability to inspire his players have earned him numerous accolades and the respect of the football community.
Smitherman’s exceptional coaching prowess has been recognized multiple times by the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MVFCA), where he was named Coach of the Year in 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019. His success didn’t stop there; the Southwest District Associated Press honored him as the Division II Coach of the Year in both 2015 and 2018, solidifying his reputation as one of the top coaches in the region.
In 2018, Smitherman led his team to victory in the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) South Division, and in 2019, he secured the Miami Valley League (MVL) Valley Division Championship. These titles are a testament to his ability to build and lead championship-caliber teams.
In addition to his regular season achievements, Smitherman has been a prominent figure in all-star games. He served as the Head Coach for the MVFCA All Star Game North Team in 2015 and 2018, and as an Assistant Coach in the prestigious Ohio North-South All Star Game in 2016 and 2018. These appointments highlight his ability to mentor and lead some of the best young talents in Ohio.
Smitherman’s commitment to sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity has also been formally recognized. He received the OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award in both 2015 and 2018, underscoring his commitment to fostering not only skilled athletes but also principled young men.
Throughout his career, Trace Smitherman has exemplified what it means to be a leader both on and off the field. His impact on the game and on the lives of his players is profound, making him a standout figure in high school football coaching.
